Christmas Letter - December 1999
Loving Holiday Greetings from your Casa Shalom family in Bucharest. We can rejoice as we look back and see God's faithfulness to us this year.
Milestones, Past and Future
In March we were able to buy Casa Shalom. In September we built our 17X40-ft. ground cellar for vegetables. Then in October we were given a 75X40-ft. metal garage and storage building. It will be here the end of January. Continue to pray for us that we can get the permits needed so we can get this building put up as soon as possible. We just praise God for every victory, which brings us closer toward fulfilling the vision God has given us for Casa Shalom.
God at Work in the Hearts of Our Children
Our Little Drummer Boy
In our devotion time last night the girls were sharing some things they were thankful for this Christmas. Sorin, our little 4-yr. old boy said, "I'm thankful for my new drum and food." He prayed for a drum and God gave him two. One by one all the girls began to share what they were thankful for this year. Most of them said, "Becky, I'm thankful that you brought me to Casa Shalom." Some of them told us that now they understand God has a plan for their life. When their families fell apart or they became orphans God had a place prepared for them where they could get to know God. We are thrilled to see the change in these children's lives. It thrills us to see God at work in the hearts of our children. As they sang in church on Sunday, their little faces were just shining. We wish you could have been there to see them! Since they can't come in person to see you we will be sending a tape and they will be singing and sending you their love to say thank-you for being a part of their life.
Reaching Out to Others in Need
We are excited about the New Year and the plans that God has for this ministry. One of the things God has put on our heart is to reach out and help some of the state orphanages. There are so many children that go to bed hungry in Romania. We, together with our children, believe God for the extra finances to give one meal a day to 1,000 children in state institutions. It will stretch us a little but together with our children we believe God for an extra 3,000 dollars a month to give food to one thousand more children. God will help us do it. The first shipment of food for them is here in our sea container in Constanta. It just arrived yesterday. I can hardly wait to start distributing all the Christmas boxes and bags of clothes and food for so many people. These are all the gifts that you folks in America sent for Romania. Thank you so much! We will be able to praise God so much better with the electric piano. Little Sorin has yet another drum on that container. My, did God ever answer his prayers!
What Does the Future Hold?
We see a lot of things happening in the world. Some people are afraid of what the New Year will bring. I know we are living in the last days and it's going to be the church's finest hour. We are honored that God is intrusting us to help bring in the final harvest. In the past there has been so much opposition as we have endeavored to move into a new level of ministry here. I feel in my spirit that we are going to see God move in an awesome way in Romania this year. Our church has been praying for revival.
New House for Babies and Toddlers
We believe God that this year we will also be able to start building the new house for babies and toddlers. We are now looking for an architect in the U.S. who could help us with our house plans. We feel that in order to build a good low maintenance building we need to have a well-insulated building, especially as it is for small children. Romania is not familiar with the new building systems we have in America. We know there are people willing to help us with expertise in their area of building or construction. Let us hear from you and how you might be able to help us. We will be getting a list out in a few months of all the materials we need to buy in the U.S. We already have our first building permit but there are about seven more hurdles to clear before we can actually start building. We are praying and pressing on to see God perform another miracle in 2000.
Best Wishes for 2000!
To each of our friends, family and sponsors we wish you a rich, spirit-led and prosperous New Year in 2000. We love you and thank you for being a part of our Casa Shalom family.
