Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: According to Christianity, what is the source of good, and what is the source of evil?

Answer: Thanks so much for your question. God is the source of all good. The Bible says, "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights...." (James 1:17).

Also, John says "...God is light, and in Him is no darkness (evil) at all" (1 John 1:5).

However, the Bible says that the Devil is the father of lies, and was a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44). He also is referred to as the thief that came to kill, steal and to destroy (John 10:10). His original fall from Heaven began the process of evil (Ezekiel 28 and Isaiah 14). He tempted Adam and Eve to sin, and when they sinned, evil became a part of the human race (Romans 5:12). We are now all born with evil tendencies (Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; Jeremiah 17:9). The only way to be made 'good' and righteous is through the blood of Jesus Christ (1 John 1: 7-9).

The gospel makes us good enough to please a "GOOD" GOD. Jesus' atoning death on the cross made it all possible, Praise God!!!! The blood of Christ washes away our sins!

I trust you have or will accept Christ as your personal Savior and Lord!
