~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: In Genesis, when God says that he is going to make man in "our" likeness, who else is he referring to?

Answer: The scriptures to which you are referring are Genesis 1: 26 and 27. "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."

In using the word "our" God is speaking of himself, the Trinity, consisting of three distinct persons, which are God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. As humans, we were created in the image of God. Although each individual is not made up of three separate persons, each one does have three parts which are the body, the soul, and the spirit. Paul makes mention of these three parts in 1 Thessalonians 5:23.
