Lesson 22 - The Life and Ministry of Jesus - Part II (Text Version)

His Compassionate Ministry

"But when He saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd" (Matthew 9:36).
"Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick" (Matthew 14:14).
"Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat..." (Matthew 15:32).
"Jesus had compassion on them, (two blind men) and touched their eyes: and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him" (Matthew 20:34).
"When the Lord saw her, (a widow going to bury her only son) he had compassion on her and said unto her, Weep not. And he came and touched the bier" (Luke 7:13-14).

How About Now?

Hebrews 4:15-16: "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities, but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need."
Hebrews 5:2: "Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that he himself also is compassed with infirmity."

To Minister and to Serve

Mark 10:42-45: "Jesus called them to him and said unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
"But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
"And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
"For the Son of man came...to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many."
He was their example.

The following are some examples in various areas of His compassionate ministry.

He Freed People From Demons

  1. At the synagogue in Capernaum (Luke 4:31-37).
  2. Many at Peter's house in Capernaum (Luke 4:41).
  3. On the Mount of the Beatitudes (Luke 6:18).
  4. The demoniac at Gadara (Luke 8:26-40).
  5. At the foot of the mount of the transfiguration (Luke 9:37-42).
