Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Is there more than one Heaven? If so, how are they described?

Answer:

From a scriptural viewpoint, there are three heavens. In 2 Corinthians 12:2, Paul speaks about a man being caught up into the third heaven.

The first heaven would be seen as the atmospheric heavens. This is where Satan works (Ephesians 2:2; also Revelation 19:17).

The second heaven would be the place the planets inhabit (Psalm 19:1; Genesis 1:14-17).

The third heaven would be the place the where the throne of God is (Matthew 5:34 also Matthew 6:14; 24:36). The most common reference is to the place where God is said to dwell, the third heaven. That is generally what we think of when we speak of heaven and going there to dwell.

We trust that this will give you a little greater insight.
