~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Anywhere in the Bible does it say anything about Jesus's hair, if it was long or short? What is considered long or short? Thank you.

Answer: Jesus did not have long hair (over his neck and shoulders). The reason I believe that He did not is due to the fact that the very Word that He authored says "Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?" (1 Corinthians 11:14)

God wants a distinction between the sexes, and nature has provided hair length as a means of that distinction.

Some would say that Jesus was a Nazarite, (which were permitted by God to have long hair for a period of time), but this was not the case. Jesus was a Nazarene (a person from Nazareth), which is a big difference.

Long hair is a sign of femininity, and when worn by a man, it is seen by God as effeminacy.

Man's hair should not be much longer than the natural hair line, this is what is considered short hair in our society. Interestingly, the common style of hair worn by men in the days of Christ is called a 'Caesar's cut' (this is according to several historians). This was a short 'box' style cut which was cut above the ears and short in the front and back, which is most likely the way Jesus wore His hair.

I trust this does help answer your question.
