Ask a Minister

~ A place to find answers to gnawing spiritual questions ~

Question: Does God reward the meek and humble?

Answer: The words meek and humble can be used interchangeably. Some other meanings of these words are: gentle, longsuffering, submissive, compliant, kind, compassionate.

Meekness is mentioned in both the Old Testament and New Testament as a character trait to be desired. "Seek righteousness, seek meekness" (Zephaniah 2:3). "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance" (Galatians 5:22-23).

There are numerous places in the Bible that mention a special promise to the meek. "The meek shall eat and be satisfied" (Psalms 22:26). "But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace" (Psalms 36:11). Jesus repeated that promise in saying "Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth (Matthew 5:5). Some other verses to look at are: Psalms 147:6, Psalms 149:4; Isaiah 11:4; Isaiah 29:19.

A simple answer to your question would be "Yes".
